    DUNKIRK, N.Y. -- A fire ripped through downtown Dunkirk on Wednesday evening, destroying a county office building and Masonic temple. Fire crews about a block away first responded about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday to the historic Masonic temple building on Central Avenue.

    People were evacuated and streets closed off in part of downtown Dunkirk Wednesday evening as a major fire was underway. Three buildings on Central Avenue between 3rd and 4th streets were effected by the blaze.

    Fire crews from the area remained on the scene of the Masonic Building in downtown Dunkirk this morning as the investigation phase of the horrific blaze begins. A meeting has been planned by city officials in City Hall at 10 a.m. to begin to assess what the next steps to take will be. Some city officials have indicated "the building will come down.
