School Notes:

  • Wentworth is a co-ed college-preparatory secondary boarding military school and junior college dedicated to providing our students the academic skills, intellectual habits, leadership qualities and character traits needed to excel at the college and university level.
  • Wentworth Military Academy & Junior College was founded in 1880 initially as Hobson's Select School for Boys. A year later, the school became Wentworth Male Academy when the school's benefactor, Stephen G. Wentworth, purchased the school and re-named it in memory of his recently deceased son, William. Its purpose was to prepare its graduates for college and professional life. That mission remains unchanged after 125 years and now applies to young women as well as men.
  • Wentworth offers a college-preparatory education grounded in the fundamentals of language arts, math, science and social studies. Preparation for standardized testing (ACT / SAT) is emphasized, as is writing across the curriculum. Junior ROTC is a required subject for all high school students and community service is a requirement for graduation. Wentworth also offers dual enrollment which allows eligible high school juniors and seniors to enroll in college classes and receive simultaneous high school and college credit.
  • Wentworth offers wide variety of programs and activities. Wentworth offers a very complete music program. Students can participate in the school's band and/or choir. It gives special importance to its Arts Program. Students can participate in Painting, Art Appreciation and other classes. The college also offers a unique Athletics program.
