Iowa Valley Community College Chancellor Tim Wynes is expected to resign from his post as head of the college district, according to an agenda item for the district board meeting set for Wednesday. Kathy Mayo is right in the middle of the action at the Winter Olympics which opened for competition this weekend. Mayo is a volunteer working at the biathlon course in Whistler, Canada, which part of the Vancouver host site. A major winter ice storm hit Central Iowa Wednesday which resulted in cancellations at Central Iowa schools and some closings of area businesses. In Marshalltown, several downtown businesses did not open or posted "closed due to weather" signs. It had been about three decades since Art Hanford was in a classroom. The T.E.A.M. team from the Newton Christian School competed in the First Lego® League (FLL) Regional Qualifier Tournament at Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown on Saturday, Dec. 19. This year 215 teams in Iowa were involved in competition. College students are not immune to anxiety or depression and a program at Marshalltown Community College seeks to help them deal with these issues. For three years, MCC has run the Student Assistance Program which provides free confidential counseling services for students. The program is led by Nancy Adams, associate professor of psychology, and is run out of her office at the colleg.
